Say Happy Mother’s Day with Minted + A giveaway!

Minted Mother's Day card

One summer morning when I was a kid my step-father looked at the calendar, saw that it was June 10th and slapped his forehead and exclaimed, “I forgot it’s your mother’s birthday!” He sent her roses at work, took us out for a lobster dinner (her favourite) and before the dessert came, gave her a birthday card. Mom fished around in her purse for a second, then handed him one too. “It’s not my birthday,” my step-father said, furrowing his brow. “It’s not mine either,” mom smiled. “It’s July 10th.” Ha ha ha ha. He never forgot her birthday again. And certainly not Mother’s Day. That would be the worst.

Mother’s Day was always breakfast in bed or brunch at the Inn, and a card and something handmade from me. I still like to make my mom things, only now I do it with a little help. And Minted (you know I love Minted!) has all kinds of gorgeous gifts you can personalize for your mom and the moms in your life. Here’s a look at just a few of them. (Some of these are on my wish list too.)

Minted Mother's Day custom art

Completely custom art — turn your child’s drawing or your own work into an art print and make it extra-special in letterpress or with real foil to make it shine.

Minted Mother's Day footprints

Custom footprint (or handprint) art — My brother should give my mother a print of his adult feet — she’d get a kick out of that. One Christmas she gave him a pair of gorgeous high heels. When he opened the box she said, “Oh those aren’t your size? Well they must be for me!” Real card, my mother.

Minted Move Me

Art from Minted’s Orange Rose Collection — now this isn’t customizable, but it is for a wonderful cause. 20% of the proceeds from the products from this collection will go towards programs supported by Every Mother Counts (EMC), a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother, everywhere. This piece is Move Me by Mya Bessette. (The collection also includes the personalized greeting card at the top of this post.)

Minted Mother's Day brunch invitation

A personalized invitation — to brunch, lunch, dinner or a play (my mother would love that!). This is one of my favourites. So thoughtful.

Minted Mother's Day online invitation

Online invitations — these are new for Minted and free until the end of June, so last-minute Larrys like me who can’t get it together to order a printed invite in time (or just prefer to go digital slash FREE) can get in the game.

Minted Mother's Day desktop

Desktop wallpapers — There are five desktop wallpapers in the orange rose collection, with all proceeds (they’re $2 each) going to Every Mother Counts.

  1. I religiously give my mom fresh cut flowers.

Last year on my first mothers day, a random worker at Trader Joe’s gave me some beautiful flowers while I was grocery shopping. It was such a sweet gesture!

  2. I have given my Mom thoughtfully curated gift baskets from myself and my kids, in addition to artfully crafted letters of gratitude, but my favorite gift I gave her was the birth of her first grandchild just a few weeks after Mother’s Day!
