Some days are golden + A giveaway

I’m a city girl at heart but you know, you get out in the country on a gorgeous afternoon and it’s easy to see its charms. We got back to nature yesterday to pick apples at a sweet little farm just 20 minutes out of the city, taking in giant whiffs of fresh country air under a brilliant blue sky. Some days are golden. Yesterday was one of them.

The Lobo and McIntosh were ripe for picking and the Cortland not quite, so we filled our bag with just the two varieties. Lobo are great for baking in pies, crisps and crumbles because they hold their shape, while McIntosh make good applesauce since they tend to bake and boil down to mush. (I like making applesauce in the slow cooker. Set it and forget it!)

Most of the low-hanging branches were bare so we had to use a fruit picker to reach the ones way up high. (Is that what you do too, or does your local farm let you get up on a ladder?)

I could reach a few if I got up on my tippy toes.

We don’t have a car (we can walk or bus to just about everything we need to get to) but we’re members of a car-sharing service that we use whenever we want to do a big grocery shop or run to IKEA or pick apples or what have you. We’ve been using it for about 10 years and it’s been so handy, but it does mean that we have to keep an eye on the time to make sure we have the car back when it’s due. And since Steve’s the driver, I’m the timekeeper. This handsome wood watch here is my second one from JORD, the CORA Koa and Rose Gold.

James likes wearing my first one, the Fieldcrest Maple. (And it almost fits him too!)

Some of these babies are going into apple cranberry raisin pie. We also picked up a basket of cucumbers, another of carrots and a giant one of plum tomatoes to make a giant batch of spaghetti sauce. Isn’t harvest time the best time?

Giveaway!

Thanks to JORD, you can enter to win a $100 USD voucher to put towards a watch of your own! All entrants will also receive a $20 voucher to use towards the purchase of a watch. How do you like them apples? (Oh c’mon. I couldn’t resist!)

To enter, have a look at JORD’s men’s and women’s watches and tell me which watch you like (either for yourself or someone else; they’re a great gift idea) in the comments below and visit this link to enter your first name and email address. You must do both in order to qualify. And good to know: All JORD watches are handmade from sustainably-harvested wood and sized to fit.

The giveaway is open to Canadian (excluding Quebec) and US residents 18+ and ends at 11:59 pm EST on October 11, 2016.

JORD Wood Watches provided me with that handsome CORA watch to facilitate this post (I’m a member of JORD’s Preferred Partner program). All opinions are my own.
