Bio Seaweed Gel nails it + A giveaway!

What a difference a week makes. This time last Friday we were super stressed with Jamesy so sick, but now that he’s feeling much better and it seems to be behind him, it’s like a huge weight’s been lifted off my chest. Today I washed my hair, ate my greens and even did my nails — with non-toxic, vegan-friendly, cruelty-free polish no less! I’m one downward dog away from totally Zen. Ha ha, not really, but it does feel good to take care of myself.  Here’s a little more about the better-for-you nail products Bio Seaweed Gel sent me to try and how you can enter to win a chance to try some too.

The BEYOND nail lacquer is relatively new (and still exclusive to Canada), and like all BSG products it’s BIG-5-free. That means no formaldehyde, toluene, BHA, DBP or camphor. Add to that free of solvents, vegan friendly and not tested on animals and you’ve got a healthier alternative to much typical brands.

Unlike other BSG products BEYOND’s not a gel — this is a polish you apply with a base and top coat like you would any other, so there’s no need to cure it under a lamp. And a couple of swipes of nail polish remover will take it off.

I had my choice of colours and went with #1 (white gel), #70 (red delicious) and #35 (cotton candy). There are 99 colours to choose from, and they all have matching colours in a gel formula should you want to use that too.

The base and top coat are Big-5-Free and all that good stuff.

This is today’s cotton candy mani. I love how it turned out! The first coat was a bit streaky, the second much more even and the third (although it only calls for two coats) gave it a solid, all over colour. It’s got a gel-like look and the top coat gives it a beautiful shine.

It’s supposed to last a week so I’ll let you know how that goes. I’m going to Toronto to see The Goods on Wednesday with my girl Renee and I’m definitely taking it with me in case I need a touch up.

BSG also sent its UNITY All-In-One formula, which combines the base and the top coat in the one gel polish. It cures in a couple of minutes under an LED/UV lamp or in direct sunlight in as little as 30 seconds, only I couldn’t test the solar cure since it was raining cats and dogs all last Saturday when I put it on. And it looked just as gorgeous before I removed it today as it did last weekend. Which is HUGE. For sure the longest a manicure has ever held up for me.

Here comes the but: for a non-toxic product, it has a surprisingly strong, almost metallic scent when you first put it on. I’m curious to know if that’s true of all colours or just the dark ones (‘tho I don’t know why that would be). But will I use it again? HECK YEAH! I love the all-in-one formula and the results are so good.
