Five things

Somehow it’s the end of January already and (not for the first time) we still have our Christmas tree up. As long as there’s more needles on the tree than on the floor, am I right? Something tells me I’m in the minority. But it still smells so good and looks so pretty lit up at night. Plus I’m too lazy to pack up all of the decorations and put them away. Oy vey, so lazy! Here’s a peek at a few things I’ve tried this month and a few things to come. Like Your Inner Critic Is A Big Jerk And Other Truths About Being Creative. It’s at the top of my to-be-read pile. What’s at the top of yours?

I love roasted sweet potatoes and they are delicious in the warm sweet potato kale bowl with quinoa from Joy McCarthy’s new book, Joyous Detox: Your Complete Plan and Cookbook to be Vibrant Every Day. And miracle of miracles, it was still warm when I finished shooting it. (That rarely happens.)

Newmarket, Ontario’s Mellow Bath and Body sent me a couple of their all-natural products to try, including this amazing scrub made with freshly ground, organic and fair trade coffee, organic raw cane sugar and shea butter. I’ll be sharing my chat with the company’s founder in the next couple of weeks, plus a chance to win some products to try yourself.

I popped into Old Navy on Friday when I was downtown meeting a girlfriend for coffee and tried on this dress and a couple other little things. Do you love the embroidery as much as I do? I think I might get it when it goes on sale.

And U.S. friends, don’t miss your chance to win $100 to shop The Baby Cubby baby gear — that giveaway’s ending February 10. Other giveaways: GOOP Clean Beauty (Canada, ends Jan. 31); She Sheds: A Room of Your Own (Canada/US, ends Feb. 2) and a Valentine sticker pack from Pipsticks (Worldwide, ends Feb. 4).

Coming in February: reviews of The Unforgettable Photograph: 228 Ideas, Tips and Secrets for Taking the Best Pictures of Your Life and Design Mom: How to Live with Kids: A Room by Room Guide and a chance to win a copy of each; I’ll try the food delivery service, SkipTheDishes, and tell you how you can enter to win a $50 credit to try it too; a look at DAVIDsTEA‘s new feel good collection; my Netflix picks for the month; and more!

What did you small things did you try in January? What will you try next month?

    1. Thanks Soozle! I do too. And the dress is very loose and swingy — I’m thinking it wouldn’t stick to you in the heat. Ohhhhh now I’m thinking I should really get it! Happy February! ❤️
