What are you doing New Year’s, New Year’s Eve?

I’m a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam and receive special perks, but all opinions are still my own.

Last New Year’s Eve we were at my brother-in-law’s and crowded together on the couch to watch Mariah Carey die a slow death on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest. (Clearly we don’t always make the best viewing choices.) This year we’re ringing in the new year at home with just us four, and while I’ll miss my extended family, I won’t miss Mariah Carey. We’re a Netflix and Netflix-only family without cable or even rabbit ears, and I daresay we’re better for it. This year the clever folks behind the streaming service have a special New Year’s treat for younger kids and their parents.

You know and I know that celebrating New Year’s with your kids can be exhausting. Especially if you’re not a night owl. And especially especially if an extremely cold snap has had you cooped up together for the 10 days leading up to it. But with Netflix’s nine different New Year’s Eve Countdown videos, you can drop that ball early and still let the kids be part of the excitement. (Ideally kids who haven’t yet learned to tell the time and/or those who haven’t already binge-watched all nine videos like mine.)

Kids can party with familiar friends from TrollhuntersAll Hail King JulienSkylanders AcademyPuffin RockWord Party and Beat Bugs, plus new appearances from PororoLarva, and True and the Rainbow Kingdom. Just search “Countdown” or “New Year’s Eve Countdown” and you’ll find a special 2018 icon added to the Netflix.com/Kids homepage with direct access to all nine videos. Grab your party hats and press play, then get those kiddos up to bed!

Earlier nights mean less cranky mornings for everybody, am I right? Are you staying up to watch the new year arrive, or are you more like “meh, it’ll be 2018 all year” and hitting the sheets before the clock strikes 12?

However you spend the last hours of 2017, I hope they’re happy ones. See you in the new year! And thank you for spending some of your year with me. xox
