Hey everybody! How’s July treating you? I’m writing from the train home to Ottawa after a few days visiting family in Barrie and Toronto. I hadn’t seen my brother-in-law and his hubby in ages and my own brother and nephew in even longer so a trip down was well overdue. I’d planned to write a few book reviews while I was away but felt soooooo lazy (maybe from the constant eating? you know how one meal blends into another when you’re on vacation) so that didn’t happen. I received some of the products mentioned in this post free of charge and name the sponsors below. All opinions are my own and from the heart.
For a couple of years in my teens I worked at the only Tim Hortons in town. The steady stream of customers kept us counter girls hopping, but the instant we caught a break and stopped to chat our manager would waltz through the swingy saloon doors dividing the back from the front and say, “If you’ve got time to lean, you’ve got time to clean.” (Which naturally we resented.) I remembered that this weekend when I had some time to lean, but instead of
avoiding the mess like I usually do, I leaned into it and cleaned my little heart out. Then rewarded myself with a good chunk of my book — I’m finishing Calypso — a few episodes of Queer Eye, and a couple of awesome spin classes at The Dailey Method. (This coming Saturday marks the end of the latest 30-day challenge where you try to do as many classes as you can in 30 days. I wanted to do 26 but will probably only get to 17.) And then we had that incredible rainbow last night! Good things are coming. Continue reading “Five things”
Thomas Allen & Son sent me Unicorn Food in exchange for an honest review; I’m partnering with Indigo and Alt on the events mentioned here; and Penguin Random House Canada sent me This Moment Is Your Life (And So Is This One) for review purposes. All opinions are my own and from the heart.
So let’s pretend I’m not writing this on a Monday, because that just seems like a weird day for a round-up. I wanted to catch you up on a few things, share some exciting events coming up, and make sure you didn’t miss out on two giveaways ending this week. But first, can we talk about this incredible Rainbow Pull-Apart Bread? Continue reading “Five things (and a few extra things)”
I was a guest of Alt Hotel and The Captain’s Boil and received the products in this post free of charge to review. All opinions are my own and from the heart.
You know when you tell yourself you’ll get to it tomorrow and suddenly it’s four months down the road and you’re no further ahead? Uggggggh. You feel crappy, right? Guilty, lazy, maybe anxious — all the things. I’ve been neglecting my fitness since before the holidays and the way I’ve been talking to myself because of it hasn’t been pretty. But that changes today. Today I’m taking a baby step to take better care of me with my first spin class of the year. But before I go (and I’m already in my gym clothes so there’s no going back now, right?), here’s a quick look at some of the things I’ve been doing lately, like enjoying some local eats and drinks at Ottawa’s Alt Hotel last Thursday (above). The cocktail party at the altcetera café was a chance to sample some specialty cocktails and nibblies made using locally-sourced ingredients.

Well hey y’all! How have you been? I want to say I’m just home from Florida but truthfully it’s coming up on a week and apart from an event on Tuesday night, I’ve been mostly lazing about the house in my jammies watching the new Queer Eye on Netflix and organizing a few odd things here and there. I’m overdue for check in and thought I’d pick up where we left off with a few pictures from my trip. I also have the potential winners of January’s Thursday Plantation and Sweet Reads Box giveaways to announce so we’ll get to that too. Continue reading “Five things (Florida edition) + did you win?”
I received the KitchenAid stand mixer and slicer/shredder attachment from TSC for free to review. The opinions expressed in my post are my own and not those of Rogers. And the same for Mad Radish — they sent me a gift card to pay for lunch. I think the gift cards are a great idea for holiday giving. (And receiving! Just sayin’.)
At some point today I’ll actually get out of my jammies and into the shower but I may just put them right back on because that’s how I roll. I have no plans to go out and all the plans to stay in (love those days!), and a pot of tea at the ready to keep me going for a while. Here’s the highlight reel from recent weeks and a reminder about an amazing giveaway wrapping up tomorrow morning that I don’t want you to miss. Happy Sunday!
