Hi guys! How have you been? I’m sorry it’s been so quiet here on the blog — I was sick for about a week there (maybe food poisoning, ‘tho it really hung on so I’m not sure what it was) and busy this past week making up for lost time by taking extra classes at a fitness studio I’ve been doing a challenge with over the past month. Today I’m checking in with a few highlights from the past couple of weeks and a chance to win a book I’m just getting into and really loving, Beartown by A Man Called Ove author Fredrik Backman. (Thanks for the copy, Simon & Schuster Canada!) It’s not out ’til April 25, but you can get a first look here.
T minus two days ’til I’m off on my winter adventure! I hinted about it this week on Instagram and today I’m going to give you a few more details, along with a look at a couple of things I’ve been up to lately (like last Sunday’s lunch at our favourite neighbourhood bagel shop). Plus (PLUS!) a giveaway I hope you’re going to love.
I’ve been trying to keep my face to the sun this week but it hasn’t been easy. Jamesy’s been so sick and I’m stressed to the hilt. (It’s been two weeks since his autoimmune disease flared up and it’ll likely be another two before he’s feeling better.) But I’ve got a tonne of things I want to share with you right up until Christmas, so I’m going to try my best to stay in touch. Here’s Benny this afternoon in the blanket of leaves that is our backyard, plus four things we’ve tried this week.
Some of the small things I’ve been trying lately (including these jumbo bottles of Eva NYC shampoo and conditioner) and a chance to try one along with me.
We’ve still got one more sleep before it’s open for shopping, but in this special edition of five things I’m sharing five sneak peeks at Ottawa’s new two-storey, 100,000-square-foot Simons store. It’s the anchor of the Rideau Centre‘s 230,000-square-foot expansion and the thirteenth store for the Quebec retailer. Simons CEO, Peter Simons, hosted a media preview last night in advance of the grand opening. Let’s take a look!
I don’t have the patience to shop WINNERS for clothes but when it comes to stand-out accessories, well I’ve got all the time in the world. This sweet bag said take me home when I spied it in store last weekend for $9.99 (regular price!). But before you run out to try to snag one of your own, here’s four other things from this week.
If you’re looking for something to read this summer and you haven’t already read it (or liked it so much you want to read it again), maybe you’d like to pick up a copy of The Light Between Oceans by M. L. Stedman. The publisher is hosting a read-a-long starting July 8 in advance of the movie version coming out in September. (They sent me a copy of the book to review and tell you about.) I can’t wait to get into it, but of course I will. Okay I did read the first couple of pages. But I promise I’ll wait on the rest and we can read along together. Here’s four other things from the past little while.
What are you up to today? It’s raining cats and dogs and frogs outside and I really should run down to Shoppers for some cat food (my guy’s got dry food so he’s not starving or anything, but it’s the wet stuff he really likes) but instead I’m curled up with my laptop here across from my kiddos while they watch episode after episode of Looney Tunes. And I should do some cleaning, but James is having a friend over this afternoon for a playdate so whatever, it can wait. Here’s five things from the past week or so.
Yesterday I spent a pleasant couple of hours in the flow writing cards to some of the sweetest people in my world. It makes me happy knowing they’re going to find something bright and cheerful in the mail, just like I do every month with my stationery subscription from A Beautiful Mess. I love the Beautiful Mess girls and just about everything they do. Last summer they announced they’re working on a cookbook (yay!) but it’ll probably be another year and a half before it comes out (boo). Here’s four other highlights from last week.
