Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day at a posh restaurant with a tall drink of water or at home with your cats and a tall bottle of red, there’s no better day to treat yourself to your heart’s desire. Even if it’s just a little something to say to yourself, “Self, you are loved.” Here are some of my favourite little sumthin’ sumthins for Valentine’s Day — all treats you can pick up last minute or order online for a delightful delivery later in the week. Love is all around but some of the Valentine-themed gifts won’t be around forever. Continue reading “Be your own Valentine: small gift ideas for your big heart + A giveaway ❤️”
Why don’t the Maple Leafs drink tea? Because the Canadiens and the Red Wings have all the cups. (Ba-dum-bum-chuh.) Little seasonal tea humour for you there. (Hey, we’re in the thick of winter. We need all the laughs we can get.) If you’re a die-hard hockey fan, you’ll know the joke’s not even true: the Leafs have won the Stanley Cup 13 times over the Red Wings’ 11. (Don’t be impressed — I totally Googled it.) But we’re not here to talk hockey. Let’s talk tea! Pull up a chair and let me pour you a virtual cup from DAVIDsTEA‘s new feel-good collection. The company sent me its five new limited-edition teas to try and I’m curious to know which one you’d like best. (Or maybe you already have a favourite. Do tell!) Continue reading “DAVIDsTEA’s feel-good collection + A giveaway!”
Somehow it’s the end of January already and (not for the first time) we still have our Christmas tree up. As long as there’s more needles on the tree than on the floor, am I right? Something tells me I’m in the minority. But it still smells so good and looks so pretty lit up at night. Plus I’m too lazy to pack up all of the decorations and put them away. Oy vey, so lazy! Here’s a peek at a few things I’ve tried this month and a few things to come. Like Your Inner Critic Is A Big Jerk And Other Truths About Being Creative. It’s at the top of my to-be-read pile. What’s at the top of yours? Continue reading “Five things”
For Christmas I like to treat my girlfriends to a little luxury — not necessarily something expensive, but something they wouldn’t buy themselves. With that in mind, here’s my gift guide for girlfriends. (And also me: I love everything here for me!) The gifts range from $8 to $105 and are all available online. Continue reading “A gift guide for girlfriends. (Also me. I love everything here too.)”
Lord knows I’m a sucker for pretty packaging, but DAVIDsTEA‘s Halloween collection is so cute it’s scary! Die Fledermaus motif inspired me to whip up a bat-ch of bat-shaped chocolate sugar cookies to go with — a little flight of fancy for one of the year’s best holidays. Here’s a few tips and tricks so you won’t turn yourself upside down making them, and a closer look at some of DAVIDsTEA’s spooky-good treats. Put the kettle on and let’s sit a spell. I don’t have the patience to shop WINNERS for clothes but when it comes to stand-out accessories, well I’ve got all the time in the world. This sweet bag said take me home when I spied it in store last weekend for $9.99 (regular price!). But before you run out to try to snag one of your own, here’s four other things from this week. Continue reading “Five things”
You know what they say: Birds of a feather drink watermelon cotton candy slushy floats together! Or something like that. This recipe is all delicious goodness — you can totally wing it and you won’t go wrong. Serve with feathers. (Oh I know some of you have them already!) Continue reading “Be a flock star with this watermelon cotton candy slushy float”
If you’re looking for something to read this summer and you haven’t already read it (or liked it so much you want to read it again), maybe you’d like to pick up a copy of The Light Between Oceans by M. L. Stedman. The publisher is hosting a read-a-long starting July 8 in advance of the movie version coming out in September. (They sent me a copy of the book to review and tell you about.) I can’t wait to get into it, but of course I will. Okay I did read the first couple of pages. But I promise I’ll wait on the rest and we can read along together. Here’s four other things from the past little while. Continue reading “Five things on a Monday”
I’ve been a tea drinker since my teens, but it’s only been in the last few years that I’ve stepped outside of the Tetley tea box to steep something new. Curiously, that was right around the time DAVIDsTEA opened their first Ottawa store in the Glebe. Coincidence? I think not. The pretty Tiffany-blue façade drew me in, the gorgeous array of tea tins and accessories in a rainbow of colours made me linger, and the delicious, fragrant tea made me stay. So when DAVIDsTEA offered to send me some samples from their new summer line, I put the kettle on. Pour you a cup? There’s plen-tea here to try. (Sorry. I can’t help myself.) Continue reading “Tea time! (But really, when isn’t it?)”
I know most of you don’t treat yourself as often as you should, so I’ve put together a selection of some of my favourite things that I’m going to send to one of you. “But it’s not even my birthday!” you say. Who says it has to be? You deserve a pick me up. And making one of you happy will make me happy. I’ve had a purple cloud hanging over my head since Prince passed away and keep watching videos of his performances. It’s not making me feel any better. But treating one of you will. Continue reading “These are a few of my favourite things + A giveaway!”
Ahhh, Fall. The perfect time to curl up with a good book, a hot beverage and chocolate bar. Even if that’s just 20 minutes after the kids have finally fallen asleep and the dishes are done and the email’s answered and that sticky patch is scrubbed off the floor (what was that sticky patch?) and you can barely keep your eyes open but dammit, you’re going to get some time to yourself. And then maybe finding the book so good you stay up way too late reading and the morning comes too damn early and you curse yourself for not going to sleep earlier, knowing you’ll do it all over again. Maybe tonight. Maybe with some of my Fall faves!
That’s right everybody, it’s giveaway time! One lucky reader is going to win three of my favourite Fall luxuries: maple sugar DAVIDsTEA, a bar of Camino (fair-trade! organic! kosher! gluten free!) milk chocolate and the fantastic new sequel to The Rosie Project, Graeme Simsion’s The Rosie Effect.
You don’t need to read The Rosie Project to get The Rosie Effect, ‘tho it’ll help you understand and empathize with the main characters so you might want to start with that first. I wanted each page of The Rosie Effect to be a surprise so I never read a summary, but you can read one here from Chapters (where I ordered it for 50% off). If you could see the bags under my eyes you’d know I couldn’t put it down. I stayed up late several nights to finish it and miss the characters already.
The maple sugar tea is a recent discovery; it’s smooth and sweet (but not too sweet!) and smells divine. It goes great with the Camino milk chocolate (my all-time fave!) and the fair trade cancels out the calories, so enjoy it guilt free!
Now for the giveaway! To enter, leave a comment below telling my some of your Fall faves, then click on this link to indicate you did so and to obtain additional entries. (If I could, I’d put the form here so you wouldn’t have to click on an external link, but my blog isn’t self-hosted so I don’t have the capability.) The giveaway is open to Canadian and US residents and ends at midnight EST on October 30. Enter today, then come back and enter again!
Good luck everybody! Can’t wait to hear about some of your Fall faves!
This is not a sponsored post. I just wanted to share some of my favourite luxuries with you!
