You know when you climb into bed with a great cookbook and wind up equal parts ravenous (‘tho too lazy to get up and fix yourself something), inspired, and more than a little bit charmed? That was my experience with The Greenhouse Cookbook: Plant-Based Eating and DIY Juicing by Emma Knight (with Hana James, Deeva Green and Lee Reitlelman), and I have a sneaking suspicion it’ll be the same for many of you too. It’s the first book from the creators of Toronto’s wildly popular cold-pressed juicery, The Greenhouse Juice Co., and features 100 plant-based, gluten-free meals and drinks that promise to nourish and energize with nutrient-dense delicious goodness anyone can make and adapt (vegetarians and omnivores alike). Penguin Canada was kind enough to send me a copy and allow me to share one of my favourite recipes from the book, the Tuscan White Bean Soup with Dinosaur Kale. I don’t know how you can say you overindulged over the holidays because I’m pretty sure I ate all the treats. Sometimes because they were there, sometimes because they were just too good, and sometimes because I was stressed out (I’m a terrible stress-eater!). But there are plenty of other things that aren’t brownies that are really good too, and much healthier all-round. This week I loaded up on fruits and veggies to try some of the recipes in Julie Daniluk’s three-day hot detox and three-day reboot cleanse.
I’m not following either to the letter (see last night’s tacos) but I’m loving the recipes I’ve tried. The berry boost smoothie is a surprisingly delicious and energizing blend of mood-boosting spinach, fruit, coconut beverage, hemp hearts and a few other things, and the broccoli blender soup is also tasty and satisfying.
Have you ever tried a detox or a cleanse? How did it go?
A shout-out to 1Milk2Sugars PR for their speedy delivery of the Clarisonic prize package I won from My Fash Avenue just before the holidays. It arrived this week in this beautiful box full of items (including a Clarisonic Aria — woot!) to make my skin clean, clear and younger-looking. Have you joined the #sonicrevolution?
Yesterday we went to IKEA for the first time in a couple of months and look what’s arrived since our last go-round! The IKEA Paper Shop! It took everything in me not to load a cart with all the pretty decorations, stationary, wrapping paper and washi tape.
And speaking of stationary, look for a giveaway this week for your chance to win this More Is More notebook from The Red Bow and some my other faves from Chapters and Target.
Have a good week everybody!
Don’t you love it when you get together with a friend you haven’t seen in ages and it feels like no time has passed? That’s how it was when I met my girlfriend Kirsten for tea last Monday.
I love the smell of coffee but just can’t get on board with the taste so it’s English Breakfast for me and a vanilla latte for my friend. What do you drink?
Tuesday I used a gift certificate for a pedicure that a girlfriend had given me many moons ago. Like the colour? It’s Hey Baby by OPI.
Wednesday a fab prize from an Instagram contest arrived in the mail — a $430 box of carefully curated beauty products (aka “one-minute miracles”) from The Kit magazine. Do you want to know what’s in the box? Tell me and I’ll share the deets in the comments.
My guy loves smoothies any time of year, but the heat wave we’ve been having makes them particularly refreshing. Do you have a favourite recipe? Our fav: two handfuls of fresh or frozen strawberries + two big spoons of vanilla yogurt + as much milk as you like for one delicious (and healthy!) strawberry drink.
Saturday morning I finished another DIY for So Fawned, with a little help from a certain fella who loves to colour. I’ll put a link up when it appears on the site in a couple of weeks.
Oh, and that Canada Day 10K I mentioned a couple of weeks ago? Yeah that’s not on. Literally. The event doesn’t run anymore and Tanya and I haven’t been running much either so we’ll set our sights on a race in August or September. There’s plenty to choose from then.
On one other note, now you can follow my blog with Bloglovin!
Are you running this summer? What’s ahead for you this week?
