Kids are like sponges, picking up what we put down whether we like it or not. In honour of International Women’s Day earlier this month, Netflix asked the #StreamTeam to consider what messages our kids receive from the female Netflix characters they connect with, and what impact they’ve had. Why? Because studies have shown that gender stereotypes have an impact on girls at a young age, and that role models from the entertainment they choose can have a lasting effect. They’re back! Date night with Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

I never thought I’d say it because she’s growing up too fast already, but today I wish my nine-year-old daughter was just three, maybe four years older so we could watch the Gilmore Girls revival together. (Ideally on one of these babies.) In case you hadn’t heard, the mini series Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life debuted on Netflix today. This is a major bonding opportunity I’m missing out on! Because we need to talk #StreamTeam

Nine try small things

We need to talk. No, not you and me. But I scared you for a second, didn’t I? Because nobody starts a conversation about taking the family to Disneyland or getting a puppy that way. It’s almost always something heavy. Like how we can’t afford to go to Disneyland or it’s not the right time for a puppy. Difficult conversations. The kind of conversations I’m terrible at. And my oldest just turned nine, so we’ve got a lot of them coming. Important conversations. Awkward conversations. Conversations that might be better easing into than confronting head-on.
